Broker-dealer/RIA blood drive combats summer blood shortage
SCF Securities announced Monday its summer SCF Cares initiative — a partnership with Central California Blood Center in which the broker-dealer/RIA will sponsor a blood drive in preparation for the fourth of July holiday. The blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20, 2014, at its company headquarters in Fresno, California.
According to CCBC spokesperson Laura Geuvjehizian, the demand for blood in local communities increases significantly in early July because of a decrease in donations and an increase in automobile accidents around the Independence Day holiday. Geuvjehizian says medical providers in the central valley often face severe blood shortages during the summer months. A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood, according to statistics from the American Red Cross.
The Central California Blood Center is a non-profit organization and the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa counties. CCBC must receive 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood each month to fulfill the demand for blood in central California communities.
CCBC is led by CEO Dean Eller, whose daughter Jenny died at the age of 21 after a four year battle with leukemia. Eller’s desire is to propel his daughter’s vision — helping donors recognize that their gift of blood is a gift of life.
“We are proud to partner with CCBC to help individuals in need of blood throughout central California,” said SCF president and CEO Randy Meadows. “One pint of blood can save up to three lives — making a difference today and impacting families for generations to come.” The firm’s chief executive encouraged employees, nearby residents, and local businesses to join its initiative by signing up to donate.
The SCF offices are located at 155 East Shaw Avenue in Fresno, California. To sign up as a donor during this SCF Cares initiative, please contact the SCF Securities home office at (800) 955-2517.
